Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed playing different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he played many hours and lost most times. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention more on poker.
The definite improvement in his abilities happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his logical thinking abilities. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
