Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he enjoyed playing various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he played many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.
The real improvement in his abilities happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often compete against each other. Howard had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
