Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
