Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved betting on numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting really competitive in these card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he played extensive hours and don’t win most times. He earned some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and concentrate more on poker.
The real improvement in his game began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly wager against one another. Howard was able to access some of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his cunning thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
